Can CBD Sleep Help With Insomnia?
CBD Sleep
It’s not a secret zenbliss.ca that poor sleep can lead to serious health problems, from fatigue and mood swings to obesity and diabetes. But did you know that CBD (cannabidiol) may be the key to getting a good night’s rest? The non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis has a variety of medical uses and has been shown to reduce pain in patients with conditions like chronic back pain and arthritis, and ease anxiety in those suffering from depression.
According to an article published in the journal FEBS Letters, CBD can help people with insomnia by modulating neurotransmitters in two brain regions that are involved in waking up: the hypothalamus and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. This can be a game-changer for people with insomnia, as it means CBD can actually make them more alert.
CBD for Sleep: How It Can Improve Your Rest
The study’s participants were 103 adult psychiatric patients who received CBD as an adjunctive treatment to their other psychiatric medications. To be eligible, patients had to have a primary diagnosis of either anxiety or poor sleep. People with a history of PTSD, schizophrenic disorders or agitated depression were excluded from the study.
The researchers gave each patient a CBD dosage of 25 mg/day in capsule form, or 30 mg/d if they had both anxiety and sleep complaints. The dose was increased gradually, up to 175 mg/d in one case with a trauma history and schizoaffective disorder. The CBD was either broad-spectrum or CBD isolate, which contains only CBD and no THC.
